Optical fiber sensor networks(OFSNs) have been adopted to multipoint measurement in many applications. This paper establishes an experimental robustness assessment approach on the basis of robustness evaluation model for optical fiber sensor networks. According to it, 8-point Fiber Bragg Grating(FBG) sensor networks with the four basic topologies including line, ring, star and bus topology are employed.Then we demonstrate a deployment method for one-dimensional optical fiber sensor networks to enhance robustness performance by optimizing sensors layout.One-dimensional OFSNs consisting of optical fiber sensors arranged in a straight line are foundation of complex ones. The one-dimensional OFSNs deployment puts forward the maximum, minimum and optimum neighbor sensor distance under the mutual influence of two same type sensors at first. Then situations for different type sensors are considered as well. Experimental verification is performed. And robustness analysis of different sensor distance is done. Under these premises, three deployment schemes for one-dimensional OFSNs are proposed, including sensors arrangement and sensors number needed in the monitoring area in the length of L. By comparing robustness of these three schemes, the best deployment scheme for one-dimensional OFSNs is found. This paper is helpful for evaluating OFSNs and optimizing robustness of OFSNs.Main work of this paper:1. Build robustness evaluation experimental platform based on topology. And genetic algorithm-support vector machine is utilized for data processing. On the basis of robustness evaluation model, experimental robustness of four basic topologies is calculated.2. A one-dimensional optical fiber sensor networks layout optimum method is proposed. It includes the same type neighbor sensor distance range di(i+1) ? [dmin, dmax]and the optimum sensor distance. When neighbor sensor distance is optimum distance,networks are the most robust.3. Build one-dimensional FBG network and analyze robustness under different neighbor sensor distance. Then two-dimensional sensor network deployment conditions are discussed.4. Three deployment schemes for one-dimensional OFSNs are compared.Relationship between these three kinds OFSNs robustness and the monitoring area length and neighbor sensor distance is simulated. The optimum deployment scheme is found.
