Robot is currently one of high-technonogy research focus in the world, the purpose of creating robots is that can be an extension of the human body and wisdom. Robot is a comprehensive integrated product technology, without any relationship with 'people' in biological meanings. Modern robot is a kind of automated machine which combines machinery with electronic technology. Reviewing the development of the robot can be useful of introspecting further on the relationship between science and society.Firstly, this paper explores the origin of the robot and'Robot'word, It will focus on the modern robot and modern robotics. The modern robotics embodies the effect of technology integration and technology application in different development stages.Secondly, this article collects and organizes some newspapers, novels, and movies, etc. about robot knowledge, and highlights characteristic of modern robot as knowledge rather than technology in the process of propagation in China.Thirdly, this article analyses the research and development process in the view of following the policy. In recent years, the State vigorously develops the robot industry, and emphasis on the promotion and application of robot technology.Finally, taking the research of Chinese first underwater robot as a case, it discusses the details of the research work and the difficulties.Technological breakthroughs and innovation of the project exploited new field of the underwater robot technology for our country.Overall, In the early stages, for the national policies strongly supported the robot research, the industrial robots and special robots developed together our State robot research got certain achievements. With the development of the society, demand for robots is growing and becoming a new field of international technology competition.
