The image fusion technology is developed based on information fusion technology, whose idea is using the appropriate fusion rules for multiple sensor images, generating a new image. The fused image has the following requirements, the first requirements is that it includes the main information from the original image; the second requirements is that images should be clear and suitable for human observation; the third that is convenient for computer processing. Image fusion technology has been widely applied in military, medicine, remote sensing and other fieldsIn recent years, the technique of wavelet transform is widely used in image fusion, is the main reason, wavelet transform in time domain and frequency domain also has good localization characteristics.In the research of multi focus image fusion theory, shortcoming from the traditional contrast image fusion algorithm is analysed, proposing an improved directional contrast image fusion theory. The different criterions are applied to high and low frequency parts processing respectively, the low-frequency part by the weighted average method, and high frequency part by Canny operator and direction contrast degree. The Canny operator is used to extract the edge in the high-frequency part, the extraction part of local directional contrast is calculated. The directional contrast selects big value method as fusion rules and the final image is obtained by inverse wavelet transform. Comparing with other fusion algorithm through the simulation experiment, and the results show that the algorithm of this article has more advantages.
