In recent years, the rapid development of the technology in the internet of things promotes industrial control field move fast towards the road of the intelligent management and monitoring on information. The foundation of the intelligent management and monitoring on information is data collection. Currently, data is mainly obtained by sensors, which as the representative of industrial devices in the internet of things. However, in the background of the technology in the internet of things, the intelligence of industrial devices is continuing to improve and the number of use of devices is continuing to increase, which make the collection sources and the range of data become more diverse. In this background, there comes a numerous industrial communication protocols and there is no standard for these protocols. Traditional data collection systems often do custom development for a specific protocol, so for other protocols, there are shortages in flexibility, versatility and scalability. These shortages become challenges for data collection technology.This paper does deeply researches and analyses on protocol identification and protocol analysis, which are the two key technologies in data collection process and put forward a data collection method based on templates. In the stage of protocol identification putting forward a scheme which is based on classification and feature matching, wherein the creation of protocol library and templates are based on standard protocols and then using these to complete protocol identification. For those who failed to pass the identification, by excavating the characteristic attributes from the frames and thereby updates the attributes to the library and generates recognition template to finalize the identification of unknown protocols based on the template. In the stage of Protocol Analysis putting forward a analysis scheme which is based on templates. The creation of templates are based on the structural characteristics of various types of protocol data units and then using these templates to analyze protocols, thus completing the implementation of the entire data collection process semi-automatically.Relying on a urban lighting monitoring project and according to aforementioned solutions, this paper designs a data collection system which is based on templates, then by doing some experiments to verify the feasibility and performance of the schemes.
