The elemental distribution of materials will directly affect their quality and performance. Mapping technology plays a very important role in improving the performance, guaranteeing the quality and extending the application of materials. Compared with traditional mapping technology, laser probe technology is expected to provide a new way to analyze elemental distribution of materials due to its many advantages, such as no vacuum environment requirement, simpler sample preparation, and no sample size limitation. However, the current mapping technology based on laser probe still works in the laboratory and corresponding mapping software rarely reported.In this dissertation, based on self-built laser probe platform and Windows system, a mapping software has been developed for laser probe using C/C++ and Python development languages and Qt application framework, and preliminarily applied to detect elemental distribution of materials. The main research results are as follows:(1) The automatic control of the laser probe to collect, store and display the spectra data has been realized by the software, and the calibration for the spectrometer has also been studied to improve the accuracy of spectra data.(2) Through adopting the panorama technology to take and display the whole picture of the sample, the mapping method for realizing precise positioning analyses and selected area analyses of the samples was proposed.(3) In order to test the performance and verify the practicability of the software, the homemade and the standard samples of iron ore were analyzed, respectively, and then the qualitative analyses of Ca, Al, Ti and Mn elemental distribution of the natural iron ore sample were realized.These results showed that the self-developed mapping software described in this dissertation can not only control the laser probe platform to collect, store and display the spectra data, take the panorama of the samples, but also analyze the selected areas of materials to finally obtain the elemental distribution of samples, which might be helpful to the wide applications of laser probe.
