With the maturity of 3G communication network, the emergence of LTE communication network and the deployment of many Wi Fi hotspots, smartphones gradually become an indispensable part of daily life. Based on the rapid spread of smart phones, more and more mobile applications come into people's sight. Among so many applications, mobile P2 P file download applications have great influence on the traffic because of that they take up much of the network bandwidth for a long time. In this context, it is necessary to do research on traffic optimization for mobile P2 P file download applications.This paper proposes a traffic optimization scheme based on network measurement for mobile P2 P file download applications. The scheme don't need to modify application protocol, and will not bring extra burden to the nodes in the network. In the scheme, the optimization module is installed into the kernel of the smartphone, and the server for network measurement is introduced. The kernel optimization module includes three sub-modules: system call hijacking sub-module, application awareness sub-module and strategy execution sub-module. System call hijacking sub-module is responsible for the redirect the socket system call function. Application awareness sub-module is responsible for identifying the application. Strategy execution sub-module is responsible for blocking or not based on the information received from the server for network measurement. The server for network measurement is responsible for the measurement of connectivity, RTT and available bandwidth. It is also responsible for the evaluation of node service ability. On the one hand, the scheme can reduce traffic entering the network from a terminal. And on the other hand, it can save power for a terminal.In order to prove the effectiveness of the proposed scheme, we finally do the test under the 3G network as well as the LTE network. The results show that the scheme can really optimize the traffic and save power.
