For further research on dehydration properties of sludge to improve the theoryof dehydration, by activated sludge sedimentation experiment for settlement in theprocess of sedimentation velocity, sedimentation rate, sludge volume index hasimportant guiding significance. However, the measurements of sludge sedimentationcharacteristics index also lack of effective methods, many experiments are still relyon manual testing. It not only reduce the experiment efficiency, but because of theinfluence of human eye fatigue in the long time monitoring, is also easy to bringmore measuring error. Machine vision with high precision, good stability, powerfulfeatures, has become a new method to test and measurement, it is widely used invarious industrial measurement occasions.In this paper, studying the test method of each index in the process of sludgesedimentation based on machine vision technology, this method can achieve highefficiency, accurate and automatic monitoring of sludge sedimentation processrequirement. This paper starting from the basic theory of sludge sedimentation, thesettlement index and the significance of the current existing test methods arediscussed. Secondly, this dissertation summarizes the machine vision system structureand the camera calibration technology, especially the commonly used imageprocessing algorithms such as edge detection and though transform in detailed. Andthen, based on experiment research, this paper puts forward the contour extractionand connected component labeling for reading the sludge-water interface positionvalue. This algorithm perform excellent because it has high precision, strongrobustness, fast response speed and so on. At the same time, based on interfaceposition, this paper puts forward the detection method of sludge sedimentationvelocity and sedimentation ratio. Finally, Use NI1764smart camera, light source,computer and other hardware equipment build the machine vision detection system.Cooperate with Opencv vision library function in VS2010design the test platformsoftware program based on the MFC framework.Combined with the experimental platform, respectively in differentspecifications measuring cylinder, use different concentration of sludge conductingsludge sedimentation experiment to verify the correctness and effectiveness of the algorithm. At the same time, on the basis of the experimental results in this paper, theperformance and rule of sedimentation velocity, sedimentation ratio are summarized,the velocity dynamic model is verified. It has good help for perfecting the theory ofsludge dewatering, and has important significance in theory and application.
