The monastery school is one of the major educational institutions in Western Europe in the Middle Ages and a winner in numerous educational institutions.Compared with the pedestal school, its life expectancy wins;compared with the bishop school, its number wins;compared with the university,it wins the age.Such an educational institution that integrates depth and depth into one body has a long tail in Western European societies, from the east of the Earth to the West of the Earth, from Scotland to England, from Romans to Germans, regardless of time, space or human beings. This creates a new situation for human education practice. The educational practice of the monastery school is part of the treasure house of human education practice. Many aspects of it are worthy of our study and learning. This paper is based on the historical background of social development in Western Europe in the 5th to 12 th centuries. It is divided into four parts to discuss the monastery school. The first part is the introduction of this article, starting from the origin of the academy, revealing the significance of its research, exploring innovations and deficiencies, and defining related concepts. The second part explores the origin of the monastery school. The monastery school is a combination of the monastery system and the school system. Therefore, the study of the origin of the monastery school is inseparable from the study of the monastery system. The second part includes the convent system, the development from the monastery system to the monastery school, the classification of the monastery school, and the influence of the monastery system on the abbey school. The third part is mainly about the historical background of the three periods of the Middle Ages(5 ~ 8th,9th ~ 10 th and 11 th ~ 12 th centuries). It introduces the development of the monastery school in detail.According to the different characteristics of monastery schools in different periods, these three periods were divided into three periods by the author, the period of development, and the turning period. The contents of the period include the earliest convent schools, the promotion of monastic schools and the characteristics of educational development during the beginning of the three aspects. The contents of the development period include the expansion of the monastery schools in Western Europe, the characteristics of the monastery school and the development period of St.Martin, and the period of transition. The main contents include the establishment of the monastery school system, the Baker convent school and the characteristics of the turning period. The fourth part discusses the historical role of the monastery school from several aspects, such as the academy's social mobility, the preservation of culture, and the foundation for the development of the university.During the period of feudal society, due to the establishment of the picking system, the Western European class was hardened and severe, and education was the “artifact” that broke class barriers.Students who enter the monastery school to receive education may become scholars or national civilian staff,or they may become abbey book scribes, which changes the original origin to some extent. In addition, the abbey school has also won the people for the church and has the social function of protecting the people from the secular power at least objectively and allowing the people to have a certain freedom of choice and maneuver between the church and the secular country. The abbey school preserves classical culture by means of copying books and educating the public. It also provides venues, institutional foundations, and teaching theories for the development of the university. However, religious school education religiousism, theology, and feudalism seriously hindered the development of education. In spite of this, the openness and universality of the abbey schools still have a certain significance.
