Nowadays,English is being used more and more widely all over the world.English writing ability can reflect students' comprehensive quality of English.It is very important to improve their English writing ability.By analyzing the current situation of junior English writing and reading a large amount of books about cooperative learning at home and abroad,the author decides to carry out an empirical research on group cooperative learning in English writing class.The new English curriculum standard of junior high school presents clearly that education should be based on students' development.Three new learning modes are also advocated in junior English class by the new English curriculum standard,namely autonomous learning,cooperative learning and inquiry learning.Thus,group cooperative learning is not only a kind of learning way that the current new curriculum reformation advocates,but also an effective way to promote students' all-round development in the long term.Therefore,after reading a lot of relevant literature on group cooperative learning,the author puts forward the following two questions with the support of constructivism and humanism theory:1.How does cooperative writing affect students' English writing performance and interest in writing?2.How is cooperative learning used effectively in junior English writing class?This paper mainly uses two kinds of research methods: Questionnaire and experimental method.The author chooses two classes from Grade Eight in SuiningSecondary School,namely Class Seven and Class Eight.Class Eight is the control class and Class Seven is the experimental class.Group cooperative learning is applied into English writing lessons in Class Seven.However traditional teaching method is adopted by the author in Class Eight.The time of the experiment is 5 months.According to the principle of heterogeneity within group and homogeneous between groups,students are divided into 8 groups and each group includes 6 members in teaching experiment.Then group cooperative learning is used in their writing class.Questionnaires and English tests are used in the study.The author also collects and analyzes their composition achievements from pre-test and post-test in Class seven and Class Eight,as well as the results of two questionnaires before and after the teaching experiment in Class Seven.After the teaching experiment,the author has analyzed the questionnaire and the test achievements.The main findings of this study are as follows:1.Students' interest in English writing and their writing achievements have been improved to some extent.2.Some useful strategies have been found in the process of cooperative writing,including constructing reasonable cooperative writing groups,guiding students to write in cooperative ways,diversified of evaluation systems,moderate goals of cooperative writing and correctly handling several relationships in cooperative learning,namely the relationship among individual learning,group learning and collective learning.
