As an international language,English plays an important role in international politics,economy and social life.English classroom teaching is an important means for people to learn and master English knowledge and skills.However,many teachers only present the textbook knowledge to their students simply and tautologically and students only strengthen their knowledge through continuous memorization and examinations rather than apply them in real life.Role-play is the most flexible activity which is close to the reality in the respect of communicative techniques.It enables students to communicate with others in a simulated situation,to have a deeper and more accurate understanding of what they have learned,as well as to improve their interest and enthusiasm in English learning.This studies based on the review of relevant research on this field is going to introduce relevant theoretical basis of role-play.It especially describes the concepts and classification of the role-play.On the basis of the theory of communicative teaching method and the above reasons,this thesis is to figure out the answers to the following questions:1.Can the role-play activities stimulate senior high school students' motivation for learning English?2.Can the implementation of role-play improve the level of English language foundation of high school students?3.How can we effectively implement role-play activities in English classroom teaching of senior high schools?Through some approaches and methods such as questionnaires,test,interview,the paper is going to analyze the status and results about the application of role-play in English teaching of senior one of Tianjiabing middle school of Lianyungang.With reference to the syllabus,the teaching aims and principles of different kinds of role-playing teaching cases will be designed mainly by recomposing the texts of the Oxford English textbook Reading and Project in Module1,Module 2,Module 3 and Module 4.Two comparable classes of senior one in Tianjiabing middle school of Lianyungang are regarded as the research object.Role-play classroom teaching activities will be carried out in the experimental class;regular class is still going on with the traditional English teaching mode.By doing the above practical things,the authorfound that the role-play activities can stimulate high school students' motivation for learning English and the implementation of role-play can improve the level of English language foundation of students.What's more,several problems that exist in the implementation process will be checked out and advisory suggestion is to be put forward to make contributions to effectively implementing role-play activities in English classroom teaching of senior high schools.
