The paper aims to examine the workable ways in implementing role play activities as reported by the sampled students and teachers.And then the paper is to find out the effects of such activities on the sampled students' English learning as displayed in a Shenzhen primary school.In the first stage,the writer collected a great number of perceptions held by the sampled teachers and students to make the implementation of role play more workable by using classroom observation,questionnaire and interview.In the second stage,the author applied observation,questionnaire,interview and test as instruments to examine the effects of the workable role play activities on students' English learning.The result shows that to make role play activities workable,enough preparations,free form and content,more real situations,more reasonable grouping,more instructions and directions,the combination of teachers' instructional directives and students' immediate response,immediate feedback and awards are needed.As for the effects on English learning,the workable role play activities promote students' oral English proficiency and make English learning atmosphere and English learning habits better.However,the written grades of the sampled students have little progress.
