The function of public service is not only an important manifestation of the purpose of running a higher education institution,but also a common social responsibility of the first-class universities today.It is also one of the major tasks for the construction of Chinese universities.Education must be prioritized and education should be accelerated.In advancing the efforts of our universities and colleges to build modern universities and disciplines,we should learn advanced experiences and follow the path suited to the development of higher education with Chinese characteristics in a new era.Cornell University,the development of public service functions of the path for our colleges and universities to expand public services functions and methods have an important positive reference.This thesis consists of three parts.The first part introduces the background of the thesis,the theoretical and practical contributions of the thesis,the definition of the core concepts,the literature review of the relevant research at home and abroad,and the main contents and research methods of the thesis.The second part is the main part of this thesis,contains a total of five chapters.The first chapter summarizes the formation background of Cornell's public service function and the early development before World War II;the second chapter expounds that from the end of World War II in 1945 to the time of Cornell University's construction of research university in 1977 Chapter III analyzes the development of Cornell University's public service function in Cornell University from 1995 to now;the fifth The chapter analyzes the enlightenment and reference of the successful experience of public service function of Cornell University to the construction of our country's colleges and universities.The conclusion is the last part,summarizing the research conclusions and related suggestions for education policy in China.The innovation of this thesis is that on the one hand,in view of the need of China's 13 th Five-year Plan for Education and the supply side structural reform of China's higher education,from the perspective of the historical development of public service functions at Cornell University in the United States,student education,scientific research and public service practice A comprehensive survey of the coordinated development of Cornell's public service functions.On the other hand,selecting a new historical time frame focuses on this historical stage since the Second World War,Cornell University has diversified its public service functions to better reveal the law of development of its public service functions.
