The happiness economics is one of the research fields that scholars at home and abroad have paid attention to in recent years. In recent years, the overall education level in China has generally been improved, and how education affects the happiness of residents is a problem worth studying and exploring.Based on the review of relevant research literature at home and abroad, with the data from CGSS2013,literature analysis, qualitative and quantitative analysis, this paper empirically examines how the education influence Chinese residents' subjective well-being.Specifically,Firstly,it includes empirical estimation and analysis of the education effect on residents' wellbeing.Furthermore,it investigates the mechanism of how education affects residents' well-being,and on the basis of above,it includes the decomposition of the direct and indirect effects of how education affects residents' happiness. Finally, the following conclusions are drawn:Firstly, when control variables are not considered, the whole sample ordered Probit regression estimation shows that education has a positive effect on the residents' happiness, and this effect does not exist in the sample selection bias. The results of the group samples show that education has a positive effect on the residents' happiness, but the influence coefficient is different, which is consistent with the whole sample estimation.Secondly, considering the control variable, the whole sample ordered Probit estimation and OLS estimation results show the robustness of the positive effect and the results show that the only influence coefficient size has changed the impact of changes, but influence direction is still consistent.Grouping samples OLS estimation results show that the impact has heterogeneity:(1)Due to a higher level of absolute income and the relative income position, the high income group sample residents have a positive effect, thus having obvious residents of happiness but middle-income and low-income group samples of residents hasn't;(2)Samples of female residents the positive effect than those of men, that women sense more happiness through education, which can improve their economic independence, social status,etc;(3)Samples of residents without spouses have more positive effect than those without a spouses, individuals of higher level education without spouses have lighter family burden, more freedom and social activities;(4)The positive effect of rural residents is stronger than that of urban residents;(5)The positive effect of sample residents in the eastern region is not significant, but it is prominent in the central and the western regions and it is slightly stronger in the western regions.Individuals in rural areas and in the central and western regions have higher levels of happiness, suggesting that education can improve the well-being of residents in these areas.Thirdly, mechanism analysis of how education affects residents' happiness shows that education not only has a direct effect on residents' well-being,but also has a n indirect effect on residents' well-being through the absolute income, relative income, social capital and other channels. The general effects are mostly carried out by indirect channels, and most of the indirect effects are transmitted by relative income. It shows that education improves residents' economic status better than simply it improves their absolute income level. The analysis of the effect of education on the well-being of the residents confirms the above conclusions.Fourthly, the robustness test shows that the robustness of how education affects residents' happiness. The conclusion is consistent with the previous text when the parent education level is controlled as the tool variable of education.
