Mathematics textbooks of primary school in Jiangsu set some flexible contents.They have special function of education and specific value.But in the actual using process of these parts,it is not ideal.The author hopes to learn about the situation of teachers and students on the elastic content,in order to improve using rate of these part,meanwhile to provide advice for the textbook compilation and revision.First,this paper defines the relevant concepts by literature review.It provides a theoretical basis for this study.Next,the author classifies the flexible contents of Maths textbooks of primary school in Jiangsu,and analyzes the quantity,distribution field and material selection of flexible contents.Then I interview with the sample teachers and have a questionnaire on the students so as to learn about their understanding and attitude,behavior operation and confusion.Finally,suggestions for effective use of flexible contents are given based on the analysis of current situation.The findings are summarized as follows:1.The distributions of flexible contents in the whole textbooks are uneven.The contents in some of the grades appear more or less.2.The proportion of flexible contents is not balanced in the four areas of knowledge.3.In the choice of theme,there are more pure mathematical knowledge text in“Questions”,less application of mathematics in the form of cartoons and pictures.The more activities with exploring mathematical knowledge appear at the "do it yourself",and the less activities for feeling the beauty of Maths and their applications in life.4.The students are interested in the "flexible contents" in the textbook.They agree with their educational value and they're positive in using.5.There is a great difference in the degree of recognition attached by teachers to three flexible contents The teachers pay much attention to “thinking questions” and "do it yourself" than to “Do you know?”,especially for young teachers.The teachersalways choose some flexible contents to teach and the teaching method is single without accordance with students' aptitude.Finally,the author puts forward the corresponding suggestions according to the results:(1)The preparation of flexible contents in textbooks need to conform to the age of students;(2)the overall arrangement should put attention to the manipuility of activities;(3)The teachers should improve their own Maths accomplishment and the efficiency of the classroom.
