In Frames of Mind,Famous Psychologist Howard Gardner put forward MI(Multiple Intelligences)theory which gives respect to students' individual differences and concerns about their comprehensive development which is based on what they are interested in and what they can do well. Therefore,it is of great importance to solve problems in teaching.Homework is one of the key links in the teaching procedures and it is also the supplement and extension of the class. This thesis focuses on the homework design in middle school based on MI theory.First of all,on the basis of the literature review in this thesis,MI theory and theories on homework are thoretical support. Then this thesis investigates the eight intelligences of target students and digs out the problems in the homework design in middle school and the hidden reasons by means of the questionnaire, student interview and text analysis. The study tests students' intelligence distribution by MI Test, analyzes homework types and the intelligences used by the students through the case study, evaluates previous homework via the questionnaire on homework, and explores further information not revealed in the questionnaire. Finally, the thesis uses SPSS data analysis and text analysis to prove the effectiveness of the study. On account of MI and the empirical study, mainly using 8A and 8B Oxford(Shanghai Edition),this thesis probes into the way of applying MI to the homework design and demonstrates various examples. Moreover, this thesis explores the visualization tools for the homework design and evaluation based on the students' eight intelligences and their views on homework. The results of the study prove that applying MI to the homework design in middle school respects the students' personality development and arouses students' interest in studying English.Students improve their abilities to do English reading and writing and gain more chances to communicate in English.
