| With the rapid development of modern means of transportation and communications technology,the process of globalization is increasingly accelerated,and countries around the world are more closely linked to each other.English plays a very important role in international communications as the language used the most frequently.Since China’ international status is being promoted day by day,China has a broader and deeper communication with other countries.The situation enhances people to learn not only English itself,but also enhance them to put efforts on how to communicate with people from different cultures effectively and appropriately.Language is the carrier of culture.The close relationship between language and culture means that it is necessary to learn the culture when learning a language.China’s ministry of education has made cultural awareness one of the five teaching objectives in the New English Curriculum Standard(2003),in which to cultivate high school students’ intercultural communication competence is clearly addressed.In order to know the current status of high school students’ intercultural communication competence,the author investigated 782 students from 8 different high schools in Hebei Province.During the research,questionnaires and interviews are applied.The author collected and analyzed the data from cognitive dimension,affective dimension and behavioral dimension.And the research aims to find out the current status of cognitive dimension,affective dimension and behavioral dimension of ICC among high school students.Based on the results,the current situation is analyzed.The general situation turns out to be not very good.It is expected that more educators,researchers and front-line teachers should pay more attention to intercultural communication competence cultivation of high school students.Moreover,the thesis provides some empirical data for further study on high school students’ intercultural communication competence. |
