In recent years,with the deepening of education and teaching reform,can the traditional English teaching approaches continue to adapt to the new requirements of education development in the new era?The development direction of English teaching in our country has become a subject concerned widely by people.After many years of painstaking research and practice,Professor Bao Tianren successfully summed up a teaching approach,the English "four-in-one" teaching approach which is in accord with China's actual conditions.The teaching approach which takes the pyramid structure as the teaching prototype summarizes the interrelationship among the language knowledge,skills,abilities and literacy on the premise that it attaches importance to the "double basic"(basic languages and basic skills).Then the teaching approach is gradually applied to all aspects of English teaching in middle schools in our country,which plays an important role in guiding English teaching in our country.Although there are many studies on the English "four-in-one" teaching approach in recent years,most of them focus only on some aspect of the teaching approach and lack the overall understanding of its theory and practice.From the theoretical level,this thesis further confirms the English "four-in-one"teaching approach can effectively improve the English teaching in middle schools with concrete teaching cases.Research methods include literature research,questionnaires survey,interviews and case studies.This study firstly elaborates the research background of the English "four-in-one" teaching approach.The rise of the teaching approach has brought new hope for the basic English teaching in our country.Secondly,the thesis collates the research situation about the English "four-in-one" teaching approach from two aspects of theoretical research and applied research,which provides the theoretical and practical basis for the English "four-in-one" teaching approach applied to the English teaching in middle schools.The objects of the study are the English teachers in middle schools.Through questionnaires survey and interviews looking up relevant data,the thesis reveals the problems in the current situation of English teaching in middle schools and analyzes the causes of the problems.Then,according to the actual situation of English teaching in middle schools,it points out that how teachers apply the English "four-in-one" teaching approach to their teaching from the two aspects:classroom teaching and review teaching,combined with the concrete teaching cases.The study shows that the English "four-in-one" teaching approach which is effective for the English teaching in middle schools,it can improve the teaching effect better and the students' learning enthusiasm.The conclusion of this study is that the English "four-in-one" teaching approach is feasible in English teaching in middle schools.The teaching approach is helpful to encourage teachers to break through the shackles of theoretical level,improve modern teaching consciousness,form their own teaching styles and make teaching practice theory.
