Under the background of internationalization of higher education,more and more university teachers are involved in activities of cross-border internationalization.Visiting abroad for one year or more becomes an important way of cross-border internationalization for faculties,which has been encouraged and supported by the government with positive policies and massive funding.Discussing the impacts that cross-border internationalization brings to teachers' academic profession,on the one hand is a good way to provide guidance for teachers' development;on the other hand provides reference for governments and higher education institutions to optimize their policy of internationalization.This research adopts the qualitative method,with carrying on semi-structured interviews to 9 teachers who once had the experience of visiting abroad,to discuss the influence of cross-border internationalization on teachers' academic profession.By absorbing some ideas from the grounded theory and encoding text materials with the aid of Nvivoll,the thesis aims to analyze the features of teachers' academic profession before going abroad,the changes of academic profession after being back as well as the specific changing processes.Finally,this thesis reached the following conclusions.Firstly,communicating with foreign scholars and other Chinese visitors,participating into research,and attending courses directly affected the teachers'academic profession.After being home,their research orientation tended to be close to the international research frontier;their research habits and methods tend to be more scientific;interaction between teachers and students becomes equal;faculties'professional networks tend to be more international;and interaction between different subjects tend to be flat.Secondly,the impact of visiting abroad on teachers' academic profession mainly concentrates on the scientific research,and has less but the most direct influence on teaching.Thirdly,through visiting abroad,teachers developed new feelings and understandings on the starting point of scientific research,the interaction between teachers,and the relationship of administration and academy.But as a result of the restriction of domestic institutional environment,substantive changes did not come into being.Fourthly,different forms of visiting abroad and personal consciousness of teachers led to different degrees of impacts.Those with foreign financial support and stronger personal consciousness seemed to be deeply affected.According to the above conclusions,this study proposes the optimization direction and strategies of visiting abroad from the following aspects:broadening the breadth of work content during visiting abroad;developing the depth of joining in scientific research during visiting abroad;refining the management of teachers'schedules during visiting abroad;changing the rigid rules;promoting the cross-border exchanges of administrative staff.
