It goes without saying that English,the most widely-used language,has posed an irreplaceable position in the modern era.There are numerous much-talked-about topics concerning the effects of family factors on the English learning of students.Individuals,including educators and learners,have aimed to improve their overall English competence.Family factors have been playing a prominent role in the course of second language learning with the advent of new era.The writer made the questionnaire for the investigation of relationship between family factors and junior students' English learning on the basis of literature review and the analysis of previous studies.The writer selected two classes of students and three English teachers of the eighth grade in a public junior middle school in Guangming District of Shenzhen as participants.The writer handed out questionnaires to the students and had interviews with the teachers in person.This thesis focuses on studying the effects of family factors on the junior students' English learning with the aid of a sequence of statistics.Excel and SPSS 18 were used to record and analyze the data collected.Three research questions were raised in the thesis.First,what essential factors concerning family environment can influence students' English learning?Second,in what ways do these factors make a difference to the learning effectiveness and achievements of students?Third,how can we optimize the family factors in order to enhance the effectiveness of their English learning?As far as students of junior middle school are concerned,there are six primary dimensions concerning family education in English learning of kids.They are family structure,parents' educational background,parents' educational philosophy,family atmosphere,parental supervision,parental instructions respectively.The six general dimensions cover twenty-one subsidiary factors,among which there are thirteen subsidiary factors that are proved and testified to be significant.They are father's academic background,mother's academic background,father's English level,tutoring classes,parental attention,father's interest in English,English materials at home,extra-curriculum time in English broadcasts or others,parents' participation in English activities together with kids,English activities,frequency of talking with parents in English,father's ability of solving problems in English,mother's ability of solving problems in English.The thesis can be classified into five chapters.Chapter one is Introduction.It involves the research background,research significance and the layout of this paper.Chapter two is Literature review and rationale.This part covers the definition of family factors,the relevant literature review as well as rationales concerned.Chapter three is Research methodology.Research questions,methods,participants,research design and procedures are presented in this part.Chapter four is Data analysis and discussion.Analyze if family factors affect the students' English learning and how they influence learners' achievements in English.Further discussion is necessary here.Chapter five is Conclusion.The main findings are listed in this chapter.A few objective and appropriate suggestions are thrown out to parties concerned.Limitations of this research and directions concerned in the future studies are declared in a clear manner.
