English Curriculum Standards(2011:8)points out that the general goal of the English course in junior high schools is to form the students' comprehensive practical ability preliminarily through English learning,to develop students' thinking ability,and to improve the comprehensive humanistic accomplishment of the students.English teaching objectives of Junior high schools are shown clearly.And the homework is an indispensable part in the process of teaching.It is also an effective form for the students to develop their self-study ability.So the homework is one of the most important methods to achieve the objectives of the English teaching.But now there are some problems in English homework.Therefore,it is necessary to study on the English homework design in rural junior high schools.Based on the theory of Multiple Intelligences,Constructivism theory and the concepts from English Curriculum Standards,the author clarifies four principles to design English homework,which are comprehensive principle,procedural principle,hierarchical principle and practical principle.According to the above theories and principles,the five-dimensional English homework mode is put forward.That is to discard the single dimension homework mode which focuses on language knowledge and to design the homework from the following five different dimensions: language knowledge and skills,emotional attitude,learning strategies and cultural awareness,one of them is main content and other four are shown in the homework.This homework mode combined with specific cases has the following design ideas: the five-dimensional English homework mode with language knowledge as the breakthrough point,the five-dimensional English homework mode with language skills as the breakthrough point,the five-dimensional English homework mode with emotional attitude as the breakthrough point,the five-dimensional English homework mode with learning strategies as the breakthrough point and the five-dimensional English homework mode with cultural awareness as the breakthrough point.And then two research questions are studied,1)Can this homework mode arouse the students' interest in English learning and change their negative attitude towards the English homework? 2)Can this homework mode promote students' ability to use the English? In order to verify the effectiveness of this mode of homework,the author takes the questionnaire and paper as research instruments and makes an experiment in Class Three and Four of Grade Two in No.15 Junior High School for a period of 5 months.The traditional single homework mode is given to Class Three which is controlled class,and the five-dimensional homework mode is shown in Class Four which is experimental class.Analysis of the data from the questionnaires and the students' scores from the two tests by Excel 2010,it is found that this mode of English homework can arouse some students' interest in English learning,change their attitude towards the English homework and improve their learning ability.
