| Teachers’ instruction is a type of teacher talk.Instructions in language teaching play an extremely important role.It is the bridge between teaching activities and student learning activities.But researches on an importance of teachers’ instructions,especially for English teachers’ instructions in Mongolian primary school English classroom is relatively few.This paper attempts to investigate the current situation of using teachers’ instructions in Mongolian primary school English classroom.,In this paper,the author applies research methodology of questionnaire,classroom observation,recording transcription and interview to do an investigation on the current situation of teachers’ instructions,and data is collected accordingly.Then the author utilizes the comprehensible input,code-switching and speech act theories as framework to make comments on teachers’ instructions.Finally,the author discusses some existing problems and current situation of using teachers’ instructions in Mongolian primary school English classroom.First,on the one hand,when the instructions are given,sometimes the number of verification(check-up questions)and its repetition are used with high frequency and it will become formalized.On the other hand,the teachers use too many repetitive instructions in order to make students understand,and ignore concise and rich expression to explain the requirement of tasks.Second,teachers’ instructions are too long and complex.Describing the requirements of the activity takes up too much time and influences task accomplishment.Third,teachers’judgment on the level of students’ English and students’ self-evaluation has a greater discrepancy.Fourth,the speed of teachers’ instructions is too fast.Sometimes when teachers issue instructions,they often ignore the students’English listening level.Fifth,teachers always command students instead of consulting with students.Six,Students in primary school are beginners in learning English,Mongolian instructions(mother tongue)should be given if necessary.The author puts forward some concrete suggestions on the use of instructions:the form of instructions should be concise,easy to comprehend,has rich forms and teachers should accurately evaluate the real level of their students. |
