A function is an important part of junior middle school mathematics, and is the basis of learning advanced mathematics.A function learning can also improve students' dialectical thinking ability.A function will be accompanied by the entire learning process in middle school mathematics. For junior middle school students,a function is a complex, abstract and difficult concept to understand, and linear functions have a far reaching effect on the learning of other functions in the future. Therefore,it is necessary to investigate and analyze difficulties in the process of learning a linear function, and then to propose some solutions. The first chapter presents the research problem, the research background and significance. At present, there are still some problems in understanding the concept of a linear function for junior middle school students, which restrict the improvement of junior middle school mathematics teaching quality. In this paper, the author takes Yuxian Nanliuzhuang Middle School as an example, analyzes the difficulties of students' function learning, and puts forward some teaching suggestions, which can provide some help for teaching and training students' abstract thinking. The second chapter introduces the research status at home and abroad.A function teaching has attracted the attention of many scholars.Whether in curriculum designs or in teaching strategies, many educators have spent a great deal of thought, and effectively promoted the development of middle school teaching. For junior middle school students who come into contact with a function, they still have many difficulties in learning. Therefore,it is necessary to carry out actual investigation and analysis. The third chapter consists of a transfer theory and a constructivist teaching theory. This part is the theoretical basis of the research and analysis. The transfer theory advocates that teachers can use a variety of scientific and effective methods to ensure that students can implement a positive transfer in mathematics learning.Constructivist teaching theory puts forward that teachers should arouse students to solve new problems with their own knowledge and experience. The fourth chapter takes Yuxian Nanliuzhuang Middle School in Zhangjiakou city of Hebei Province as the object of study, and investigates the function learning of the students in the junior middle school.Through the investigation,we find that there are four kinds of difficulties in a function learning. The fifth chapter, through interviews with teachers and students and analysis, summarizes some reasons leading to difficulties in a function learning. The first reason is the complexity of the knowledge of functions;the second is that a logical thinking of students is still in the stage of forming, often lack of rigorous consideration. Finally teaching content is restricted to textbooks, and is unrealistic, etc. The sixth chapter puts forward suggestions: first, teachers can use some concrete example to give interpretation of the function concept;second, using the method of creating problem situation for students to distinguish between constant and variable;third, applying the transfer theory to teaching process to determine the range of variables;fourth, applying the constructivist theory to teaching process to give image drawing of a linear function and to explain image properties;fifth,to develop mathematical thinking and learning habits of students. To obtain the good effect of classroom teaching,by means of introduction of instances the seventh chapter gives the concrete teaching design and reflects on the teaching design. The eighth chapter summarizes the content of the whole thesis. It is expected that this study will serve as a reference for the function teaching in the similar township middle school.
