As the foundation for constructing and consolidating national defense as well as an important way to strength national cohesion and elevate public quality,education of national defense in institutions of higher education,where highly specialized talents are cultivated,endowed with a special position and role in the whole nation education.As the dominant force in the future national defense,contemporary university students are shouldering the responsibility of defending nation,pushing modernization and realizing Chinese dream,therefore,it is vital and necessary to improve the effectiveness of national defense education.Guangdong province,a major leading position in China's reform and opening-up,occupies an irreplaceable status and significance.In respect to the national defense education,colleges and universities in Guangdong province should also be pioneers.After 20 years' exploration and practice,colleges and universities in Guangdong have made endless efforts and trials in national defense education,and have achieved favorable results.However,limited by subjective and objective conditions,there are still many problems existing,which to some extent restrict smooth implementation of national defense education.Considering the above several points,and based on a questionnaire of the national defense education in Guangdong colleges and universities,the paper analyzes the current situation and problems of its national defense education,puts forward countermeasures and suggestions to optimize and improve its effectiveness,and finally achieve the goal of national defense education.The paper is divided into five parts.Chapter I as introduction,mainly presents background and significance of this topic,research status at home and abroad,research content and ideas.Chapter II is the theory of national defense education and the development of national defense education in China as a whole and colleges and universities in particular.Chapter III introduces the evaluation system of effectiveness.In this part,it firstly discusses the necessity of carrying out effectiveness evaluation,and then from the aim of national defense education,it formulates the evaluation criteria in four dimensions,namely the national defense consciousness and national defense knowledge,national defense military skills,national defense behavior capability.Chapter IV is an empirical survey on the effectiveness of national defense education in colleges and universities in Guangdong province.By empirically surveying,this paper analyzes the main achievements and existing problems of Guangdong colleges and universities.Meanwhile,reasons are elaborated to furnish a practical basis for improving the effectiveness of national defense education in Guangdong colleges and universities.Chapter V,summarizes paths to strength and perfect effectiveness of its national defense education,in which countermeasures are put forth in five aspects: institutional mechanisms construction,ideological guidance,building teaching system,enhancing military training and innovating education form.
