As a test item to evaluate English learners’ integrated ability of using the language,the cloze test has been extensively used in different kinds of examinations.Cloze test is an crucial type of test item in College Entrance Examination and it aims to test some language abilities,such as grammar,vocabulary and understanding of the passage.Besides,it takes 20 percent in the final score.Nevertheless,a large number of students think that the cloze test is the most difficult item to deal with and they tend to lose scores in the item easily.In recent years,the cloze test tends to lay more stress on students’ ability in comprehension and language using.In order to get high grades in cloze test,students should pay attention to master some strategies and skills.And it is of high necessity for teachers to guide students to learn and use cohesion theory to solve the problems in cloze test.The thesis aims to study the current situation of cloze test achievements of year-one students in No.4Senior High School,the efficiency of applying the Cohesion theory into cloze training to improve the students’ achievement in cloze testing,and students’ feeling after the training of cohesion theory.The research methods contained questionnaire,interview and teaching experiment.The thesis used SPSS to analyze data collected.The research objects were from Class 7 and 8,senior-one students of No.4Middle School in Urumqi.During the teaching process,Class 8 was taught with the Cohesion theory,and Class 8 was taught with traditional teaching method.After12-week teaching period,the researcher recognized that the applying cohesion theory in cloze teaching can help improve students’ ability to solve the cloze test.The thesis indicated that it would be helpful and useful for teachers to apply the Cohesion theory into cloze teaching,and it would improve students’ achievement.All the results had some effects on the cloze training in the first grade of high school:(1)teachers should change traditional teaching belief and method,and they should not only focus on vocabulary and grammar teaching,but also focus on developing students’ awareness of applying cohesion theory into cloze practicing;(2)teachers should lead students to master some skills and strategies to deal with cloze testing,and they should help students to establish proper learning habits and logical thinking minds.
