Confronting the new English curriculum reform and the call for “returning to the life world”,the growth of the new English teachers as the important and necessary stage in teachers' occupation career has attracted more and more attention. It is urgently needed that the new English teachers should adapt themselves to the role of “teacher” as soon as possible and take on the historical mission of “teaching”.It also provides us good chance to deeply explore and study the living condition of the new English teachers. The purpose of this paper is to deeply explore the new English teachers' teaching life, visually reflect their living condition and discover the key problems of their growth.Based on “life world structure” of Canadian educationalist Max Van Manen, this study adopts the method of narrative research to descript the new English teachers' teaching life from the dimensions of time and space. This study founds that their teaching life presents the following characteristics from the dimension of time: they are experiencing a weak cycle time;their individual time shows fuzzy boundaries;school disciplines internalize their anxiety of class time. From the dimension of space at the same time: the physical space and the social space gives them an invisible psychological oppression;the distance between their ideal and the reality forces them to keep a certain “distance” to maintain the authority;the discourse space between teachers and students in the class presents a subtle “deviation”.By analyzing the spatial and temporal state of the new English teacher's teaching life,we find that the problems in their professional development mainly include: the new English teachers waste their time in the daily affairs;their teaching survival space is much more narrow in various kinds of pressing;their identity recognition of “teacher” gradually changed with the real shock;they feel more lonely under the peer group culture without close relationship and support. Therefore, the paper finally puts forward some feasible paths for the new English teachers in their professional development: reshape school system culture, schools need to carry on humanistic management according to teachers' different characteristics;focus on the English classroom, enlighten new English teachers' education wisdom;promote their identity construction, establish the new teachers' self-care aesthetic image;construct teacher community, promote their multi oriented conversation. We hope that this can help the new English teachers face up to the professional development crisis and return to the real teaching life world.
