With the aging of our population and the tide of young people leaving their homelands,the elderly living alone,a special elderly group,have increasingly attracted the attention from all sectors of society.This particularity requires that the social workers take special methods suitable to these old men in the process of contact with the victims,understand the development of victims both in physical and mentality in a scientific way and introduce a supporting contact plan,which is the primary work that social workers should do.Based on that thought,the author strives to explore the ways about how to apply rational emotional therapy in a more scientific and more humanistic way so as to provide support and intervention for old people living alone.In doing so,a new path will be blazed for the research about old people living alone lacking relevant researches,which will contribute to the process of elevating the theory of social work to the experience of practice,and then in return,elevating the practice to the theory.Rational emotional therapy has a certain applicability in alleviating and correcting the unreasonable concept and negative emotions of old people living alone.Therefore,the author of this paper gets a profound understanding of A community in Taiyuan,has an experience to apply rational emotional therapy in the elderly living alone case social work,which plays a corrective and implicit role in promoting the victim to get rid of emotional distress.Through three successful case studies,which in the elderly alone in the case there is a certain degree of generalization,can promote the application,while the author also summed up a few cases based on rational emotional therapy in the case of elderly patientsinvolved in the experience for the latter reference.
