The National English Curriculum(2001)advocates the learning style involving these aspects: experience,practice,participation and cooperation from students' interest in learning,experience of life and the cognitive level so as to develop students' comprehensive language ability.It is stressed that the process of language learning should be a way in which students' can develop their positive attitudes,practical abilities,critical thinking skills,cultural awareness and autonomous learning.All of them aim to lay the foundation of students' lifelong learning.According to the aims of the National English Curriculum,teachers must lay emphasis on training students' abilities in these four essential skills——listening,speaking,reading and writing,among which reading should be attached great attention.However,the traditional English reading teaching in senior high school lays too much emphasis on grammar and vocabulary,ignoring the training of students' abilities of autonomous learning,cooperating and innovation.As a result,students' subjectivity isn't reflected,which destroys the natural ecology of the classroom objectively and fails to meet the requirements of the National English Curriculum.So it's necessary for us English teachers and scholars to find out and analyze the problems existing in English reading teaching in senior high school.The basic idea of ecological teaching is to organize the classroom teaching using a whole,lively and developing view to respect students' subjective statues.Ecological teaching involves ecological teaching environment,ecological teaching contents,ecological teaching procedures,ecological teaching assessments,which are helpful for stimulating students' interest in learning English,improving students' learning strategies and helping students form a good habit in learning English.Ecological teaching is basically consistent with the requirements of the National English Curriculum,improving students' comprehensive ability of using the language and laying a good foundation for students' lifelong learning.Based on referring to the research results of scholars at home and abroad,this paper reviewed the previous researches about ecological teaching and English reading,and conducted a primary design.To investigate the current situation of English reading teaching and to find out whether the theory of ecological teaching has an effect on it,the author selected two equal classes in senior two at a county high school in Ganzhou to carry out the experiment for a semester.According to the results from the questionnaire,interview and reading test,the author collected and analyzed the data by using SPSS 22.0.The results of the study show that applying ecological teaching theory to English reading teaching in senior high school has a positive impact on both students' attitudes towards reading and teaching efficiency,students' grade is improved as well.
