In recent years,listening teaching is attached more and more importance in Senior English teaching.Krashen(1981)points out that listening is a key factor to facilitate language learning.Richard(1992)thinks that before teaching speaking,listening ability should be trained for a while...If the students’ listening comprehension has been improved fully,they could express themselves naturally.It is known that language acquisition can be achieved by a large number of comprehensible input,and listening is an important way to receive this comprehensible input.For this reason,in foreign language teaching,listening teaching should be emphasized and the effectiveness of listening teaching should be enhanced.Lexical chunks theory has drawn more and more researchers since it was put forward.Lewis(1993)holds that lexical chunk is a key element in English learning.Wang(2000)states the key factor to study English well lies in grasping as many as frequently-used words,phrases,sentences patterns,collocations and idioms,etc.There is denying the fact that a learner’s listening ability depends,to a large degree,on his/her size of vocabulary.Therefore,the paper,taking 139 students from two natural classes(one class as the experimental class and the other as the control class)of one senior high school as the research subjects and adopting the research instruments of tests questionnaire and interview,tries to explore the feasibility and effectiveness of lexical chunks theory in listening teaching of the senior high school.Specifically,this paper aims to answer the following questions.1)Can the lexical chunk approach improve the students’ English listening achievement? If yes,which group of the students will achieve most?2)In English listening teaching,can the lexical chunk training enhance students’ awareness of lexical chunks?By analyzing the collected data quantitatively and qualitatively,the researchresults indicate that:1)Guided by lexical chunk approach,all the students’ English listening achievements in EC have been improved.The students of three level groups achieved in varying degrees,but the average-level group achieved most.2)In English listening teaching,lexical chunk training can strengthen the students’ awareness of lexical chunks and arouse their learning enthusiasm for lexical chunks,which shows that lexical chunks approach plays a positive role in teaching English listening...
