Nowadays,with the rise of “Chinese fever” worldwide,Confucius institutes and Confucius classrooms have attracted the attention of people around the world.In addition to the overseas Chinese language teaching,there are also some Chinese lessons for speakers of other language in the international schools located in China.It is more effective to teach a language in the local language environment,thus the Chinese teaching in the domestic international schools occupies an important position of International Chinese education.Based on text analysis,interviews,and class observation,this study aims to investigate the current situation of Chinese teaching for primary students of international schools by examining the course design in Yew Chung International School of Chongqing.Suggestions are made for the Chinese teaching of international schools,so as to provide the valuable insight for International Chinese education.Through the study,the author find that the Chinese teaching in Yew Chung international school of Chongqing is satisfactory from the perspective of teaching syllabus,textbook and curriculum arrangement.Such rigorous system of Chinese teaching not only makes teachers' preparation work easier,but also helps to improve the students' learning efficiency,which further reflects the advantages of being systematic.Except for Chinese language and Chinese culture classes,the school held a lot of Chinese culture activities and competitions to supplement the Chinese teaching,which displayed the characteristic of diversity.In the Chinese classes,the teachers are never constrained by merely presenting knowledge of Chinese language,and they also add more knowledge from different countries based on the characteristics of the students,making Chinese teaching more international.International schools' Chinese teaching characteristics give some enlightening ideas to International Chinese education,for instance,the Chinese promotion should pay more attention to younger learners;Chinese is a compulsory subject to all the international school students regardless of age,the students' Chinese language level improves very quickly after a systematic study.The unique cross-cultural environment of International school makes the Chinese promotion,which is based on the sino-foreign cooperation feasible and effective;the help of foreign teachers make Chinese culture lessons more interesting;and encouraging students to participate in each activity has a significant effect on enhancing the students' enthusiasm to learn Chinese culture.Therefore,the sino-foreign cooperation and the encouragement of the students' participation in activities can be taken advantage of in the promotion of Chinese language.As an international school opened in China,Yew Chung International school has attached great importance to the creation of Chinese language environment.The Chinese classroom and Chinese Week has helped to create a Chinese learning environment that is more authentic,which has promoted the Chinese teaching significantly.The author hopes that this article will attract more people's attention to the Chinese teaching in international schools,promote the development of Chinese teaching in international schools,and help the development of International Chinese education.
