Abstract/Summary:
This paper explores the reasons for bottleneck of average-achieving students’English learning in senior high school,and thus proposes the corresponding countermeasures.The experimental results indicate that the bottleneck of average-achieving students is influenced by the following factors:English autonomous learning ability,English learning psychology,teachers’ care and attention and family education.Among them,the lack of autonomous learning ability and the psychological quality during average-achieving students’ English learning are the main reasons for the bottleneck.They are unable to make goals and plans;they lack self-regulative abilities,feedback,adjustment,summary,evaluation and reflection Thus,it is impossible for them to master scientific learning methods and systematic language learning skills.Most average-achieving students’ don’t have strong learning motivation and interest.Their English learning stays in a passive state for a long time,which leads to the lack of self-confidence,anxiety,poor sense of learning self-efficacy.Average-achieving students can’t take the initiative to participate in classroom activities,but they are eager to receive the teachers’ praise and attention,but vulnerable to practical results of examinations and also repeatedly frustrated.Due to teachers’ lack of attention and care,there is little communication between teachers and students.Teachers can’t offer timely help and guidance to average-achieving students.Their family education is also a big problem.Based upon the analysis of the reasons,this study proposes the corresponding countermeasures.First of all,teachers should pay attention to the growth and special characteristics of average-achieving students,and touch them with humanistic care.Teachers should trust,accept,support and listen to them,respect them as a person of value.Secondly,schools and educators should change the educational notion,implement personalized education,get rid of the restriction of text books and return to life.They should aim to reveal the whole picture of English to average-achieving students and fill the gaps in the syllabus of Senior English teaching.In addition,schools and teachers should also be actively involved in action research,exploration and improvement of educational methods.They should also provide a platform for average-achieving students.Only in his way will they be fully excavated and overcome the bottleneck problem.Education is the art of wandering and the art of waiting.The growth of average-achieving students is a long process and the education department,schools,teachers,parents and students should devote time and energy to it.
