The concept of Theme-Based learning was first proposed by the American University of Chicago at the beginning of the 20 th century,which is widely used in mother tongue and second language teaching in Europe and the United States.At the same time,the Theme-Based learning has been applied and studied in different teaching fields in our country,especially in English teaching.The Theme-Based learning integrated the characteristics of other teaching methods,which also emphasizes on the theme of language teaching,focuses on the relevance of other disciplines and network construction of knowledge.However,in the field of teaching Chinese as a foreign language,the application of Theme-Based learning is just emerging,and its related research is not abundant.Based on the cognitive theory,this paper is based on the research results of other scholars,and also takes into account the learning characteristics,interests,needs,Chinese teaching conditions and characteristics of English students from the perspective of primary Chinese teaching in British secondary schools and other factors.The author taught the Queensferry High school as an example,which the author had taught Chinese for a year.With the Chinese teaching practice there,the author analyzed three themes of Chinese teaching design,which are the "Spring Festival","Chinese family" and "food culture".This paper discusses the application of the model in the practice of Chinese teaching in UK,and analyzes the application effects of the teaching model.This paper mainly studies the application of Theme-Based learning in the primary Chinese comprehensive course in British high school.This paper is divided into five parts,including three chapters and the introduction and conclusion parts.The introduction part mainly introduces the origin,the purpose and significance of this topic,the research status of this subject at home and abroad,and also summarizes the relevant theories of Theme-Based learning,expounds its connotation,characteristics,process and the research methods of this article.The second chapter is the core part of the thesis,which takes the three themes of "Spring Festival","Chinese family" and "food culture" as an example to analyze the various aspects of Theme-Based learning design,and shows the implementation process of Theme-Based learning.At the same time,it analyzes the factors that influence the various aspects of theme-selection and the principles of theme-selection.The third chapter comprehensively shows the teaching process of these three themes,and analyzes the teaching effect with the teaching experience.The fourth chapter carries on the quality investigation of the effect on the experimental school,and compares the effect with Tynecastle High school which the author had taught Chinese in at the same time.In this chapter,the author evaluates the learning effect of the experimental school by the comparison,and discusses the advantages and disadvantages of the application of Theme-Based learning and puts forward some relevant teaching suggestions.In the conclusion part,the author summarizes her work in the research process,the main conclusions of the study and the aspects which should be further improved.
