| The widespread application of information technology has also brought about revolutionary changes in the field of education. As a result, the teaching and learning activities that originally happen in the classroom are expanded to the virtual space, and the learner’s learning demands has been greatly satisfied due to a variety of information software and hardware technologies. Digital teaching materials are not only digital versions of traditional paper textbooks, but also can serve as a bridge between physical space and virtual space, which can provide support for a variety of teaching modes and teaching activities. The practice shows that the digital teaching material has the incomparable advantage over the traditional paper teaching material, and it has become one of the hottest topic for educational research department and business organization.In the application process, digital teaching materials need to manifest its overriding characteristics, such as rich in content, rich media, interaction and expansibility, which cannot be separated from the support of corresponding software and devices. At present,many e-book reading systems can only meet the basic reading needs, but cannot provide support for all the features of e-book. Accordingly, they cannot fully exert the potential of digital teaching materials, which have seriously hindered the application of e-textbook reading systems in education and teaching processes.Therefore, in order to promote the application of digital teaching materials in China,it is necessary to develop an electronic textbook reading system which can effectively reveal the characteristics of electronic teaching materials and meet the needs of modem education.’ Based on the open source project of Readium, this paper designs and develops a reading system which can give full support to the characteristics of epub, which is the basic format of electronic teaching material. The main research work includes:1. The modern education and learning theory is studied, and theories about electronic notebook and e-book reading system are analyzed. The demand analyses of the system is implemented in the way of surveying and researching, and a reading system framework for epub format which can meet the basic needs of teaching and learning is designed.2. The essential characteristics of epub format is studied to design a solution for epub parsing and displaying in Android platform. The basic mechanism and structure of Readium open source project is studied.3. According to the needs of e-book client analysis, functional modules such as bookstore, bookshelves,manual flip,annotation,attribute setting,learning behavior data acquisition are developed and added to the reading system, which enriches the reading functions of Android client application.Under the guide of the theory of e-books, this paper designs and develops an epub reading system based on the epub resolving and displaying mechanism provided by Readium, which can provide learning services missed in the existing e-book reading software. At last, we hope the work of this paper would provide technical support for the extensive application of digital teaching materials in China. |
