English study is affected by many factors, of which learning motivation plays an important role. Recently, many researchers have paid much attention to the English learning motivation, besides, many researchers at home or abroad have done many researches on the learning motivation from different aspects. This paper is based motivational theories and the former research and it tries to figure out the overall status and characteristics of English learning motivation between different grades,genders,districts and English proficiency.The researcher investigated 210 senior high school students with a questionnaire on English learning motivation of senior high school students and analyzed the results with the help of spss17.0. The results are as follows:1. On the whole, the senior high school students have inferior to moderate English learning motivation. Among different types of motivation, the intrinsic motivation is the strongest, while the extrinsic, the weakest.2. Students with different genders have totally different level of English learning motivation. Female students in senior high school have stronger motivation than male students.3. Students at different grades have very different English learning motivation.Senior high school students in grade 2 have the strongest motivation, followed by students in grade 1 and students in grade 3 have the weakest motivation.4. From the aspect of different family background, not all the motivation has significant difference. Only the integrative motivation and extrinsic motivation have significant difference. Students from cities have the strongest integrative motivation followed by students from county towns and countryside. Students from the countryside have the strongest extrinsic motivation followed by students from the county towns and students from the cities have the weakest extrinsic motivation.4. The English learning motivation of students who have different English proficiency has significant difference. The better one's English proficiency, the stronger his English learning motivation.Based on the result of the questionnaire, the researcher have come up with several strategies to stimulate and enhance the students' learning motivation.
