With the rapid urbanization, urban culture is increasingly strong while rural culture is squeezed. In this process, the social status of rural teachers decreased significantly. It has changed from the traditional rural intellectual elite into vulnerable groups in modern rural community. The decline of rural teachers' social status has aroused widespread concern. The paper studies the present situation and the changing process of rural teachers' social status in the perspective of cultural change. The main research methods for the paper are literature research and deep interviews.Interviewees are rural teachers of different ages from the same school and surrounding villages near the school. Deep interviews provide a rich set of materials for rural teachers'social status changes. Since the 1980s, the social status of rural teachers has decreased significantly. Specificity speaking, rural teachers have low economic status, low social reputation, weak social capital and their upward flow channel narrow. This has resulted in the loss of rural teachers, which does harm to the improvement of rural education quality. In the perspective of rural culture, the change of rural values, the decline of rural culture and the spread of harmful culture are the major factors of the decline of rural teachers' social status. The mechanism of rural culture on the social status of rural teachers are as follows.Rural education is gradually going ahead urban culture, which leaves rural teachers an awkward situation. Under the trend of market, the economic orientation of rural culture is becoming more and more obvious, and the proportion of economic capital in the social status dimension is increasing. The social status of peasant entrepreneurs and technical migrant workers jumps while the social status of rural teachers is relatively decreased.Rural culture is increasingly influenced by colorful urban culture . Urban and rural cultural relations more like a single output rather than a positive interaction. Rural teachers, as the inheritors of rural culture, are increasingly vulnerable. The absence of the rural value system leads to the spread of harmful culture. The traditional atmosphere of respect for teachers is reduced and teachers' reputation and discourse in rural communities have declined. The construction of rural culture plays an important role for the purpose of improving the status if rural teachers. Specifically, to avoid over urbanization in rural education, rural knowledge should be spread in rural school. We should encourage rural teachers to participate in the construction of new rural public culture and expand their network at the same time. Through the rural value system reconstruction, return to the fine style of respect for teachers. return to respect for teachers should be encouraged again through the reconstruction of rural value system.
