In today's society,people have realized that reading plays a crucial role in the development of person,especially when they begin to put more attention to lifelong learning and comprehensive development.However,in practical teaching,educators usually spend most of the energy on in-class reading,instead of guiding the students to extracurricular reading.In this paper,the author try to find out the existing problems on reading of the students in Y Experimental School,by researching the after-class reading situation of the third period students,and the author also intends to find the root cause of the reading problem from the aspect of school teachers,parents and so on,then puts forward the improvement strategy.This research can lead Y Experimental School to do better in the after-class reading actives,and provide reference for other primary schools on extracurricular reading strategy.Questionnaire and interview methods are used in this study,and statistics present the following four conclusions.(1)Current situation.Students show high interest on reading with proper reading attitude.Teachers think highly of extracurricular reading and take steps to encourage students to read.(2)Problems existing.Problems exist on many aspects,such as unscientific reading method,insufficient reading time and quantity.In the meantime students may have inappropriate reading purpose for lack of correct guidance and methods from teachers and parents who do not usually have enough cooperation with each other.(3)The reasons.The author thinks the main causes of reading problems are social reading atmosphere is not strong,teachers do not attach great importance to reading after class,and parents do not pay enough attention to get children into habit of reading.The limit of the children's physical and mental characteristics also plays a part.(4)Suggestions.The author puts forward proposals from how to increase awareness of reading after class,guarantee the reading time,strengthen the guidance from parents and teachers.Besides,we also have to improve reading environment.Promoting cooperation from family and school is also presented in this study which is hoped to be of some help to improve the students' reading level.
