Vocabulary,a basic element of language,plays a decisive part in communication and information transmission.It also occupies a vital position in the cultivation of learners' listening,speaking,reading and writing.In recent years,there have been many studies about English vocabulary learning strategies,but there has been insufficient research on English vocabulary learning strategies in common high school students,so it is worth further studying.This paper employs an investigation and analysis,to find out the using and overall of English vocabulary learning strategies of high school students from Xiangcheng High School,and to know the differences in vocabulary learning strategies between high vocabulary level students and low vocabulary level students,and to find out the correlation between vocabulary learning strategies use and vocabulary level.This study,taking 143 students of Grade 2 from three classes in Xiangcheng High School as the subject,adapts the English Vocabulary Learning Strategy Questionnaires by Professor Gu Yongqi and uses Vocabulary Knowledge Scale Test of Ma Guanghui which recomposed Vocabulary Knowledge Scale Test of Paribakt and Wesche.All the data are calculated by SPSS.The results indicate that: 1)The students use the following strategies in high frequency: oral repetition,visual repetition;and those strategies are in medium frequency: wider context,dictionary strategies for comprehension,immediate context,use of word-structure,selective attention,looking-up strategies,visual Encoding,usage-oriented note-taking,association/ elaboration,extended dictionary strategies,meaning-oriented note-taking,self-initiation,activation strategies,auditory encoding,use of word lists;and those strategies are in low frequency: contextual encoding,semantic encoding;2)Students who use learning strategies more frequently get higher score in Vocabulary Level Test than those that apply learning strategies less frequently;3)The correlation coefficient between the score of English vocabulary learning strategies and that of vocabulary levels test is 0.363,which is a low positive correlation.Therefore,if the subjects use vocabulary learning strategies more frequently,their lexical levels are higher.In addition,the study randomly selected each five students from high and low vocabulary level groups respectively to conduct interviews,to provide more sufficient basis.Finally,based on the research results,the author puts forward some suitable English Vocabulary teaching suggestions.
