Abstract/Summary:
It is generally considered that learning strategies and learning styles are two very salient variables of the Second Language Acquisition since the 1970s. Learning strategies refer to some specific techniques, approaches, or behaviors which are taken by language learners in order to obtain successful language learning achievements, while learning styles are the unconscious preferences of individuals in terms of learning. These two variables are investigated respectively and frequently both abroad and at home. However, the study of correlation between them is rare or even none of the study is from the point of senior high school students. This study chose 120 students from Zaozhuang No. 8 senior high school to investigate their preferences of learning styles, English vocabulary learning strategies, and the correlation between them by means of two questionnaires about learning styles and learning strategies. And it also made the comparison with results generalized from collections of instances. The results of the present study are as follows: Firstly, senior high school students prefer visual and analytic learning styles to other learning styles. Secondly, senior high school students like cognitive strategies more than metacognitive and social/affective strategies in the process of learning vocabulary. Thirdly, some learning styles have correlation with vocabulary learning strategies, and learning styles influence the choices of vocabulary learning strategies. The present study also had some limitations, such as the limited subjects, the overloaded questions of questionnaires, many variables without considering in the study. These would be the further research subjects in the future and results of the study would be helpful for students and teachers to enhance their quality and quantity of learning and teaching vocabulary.
