Along with the frequent intercommunion of economics and politics,the world is moving towards globalization.English,as one of the most important communicative tools in the world,is a necessary and essential skill for people.Especially,in China,English reading plays a fundamental role in English study for high school students.English textbooks are the main resources for students to enhance English reading comprehension ability.Therefore,Reading Section in textbooks is of vital importance for students to improve reading ability.However,the author found that there are only a few researches which attempt to survey Reading Section of NSEFC nowadays.This study focuses on NSEFC with the organic combination of internal and external evaluation to examine the advantages and disadvantages of reading materials(reading text and exercises)of the course book.The thesis aims to answer the following questions: 1)Are the selection and arrangement of Reading Section scientific and reasonable? 2)Does Reading Section satisfy teachers' teaching requirements and students' learning needs? 3)Does Reading Section conform to requirements of the Curriculum Standard? The research instruments include questionnaires and interviews.172 students and 26 English teachers from Zhangzhou NO.3 High School were taken as objects.All the data are processed with the help of SPSS21.0.Furthermore,six teachers and some students are interviewed to discuss the problems which are not easy to be presented in questionnaires,and some feasible suggestions are provided at last.The results show that most of teachers and students highly evaluated the Reading Section of the book.Grammar and vocabularies in Reading Section are reasonably arranged.Cultural knowledge and the teaching approach of reading skills could be approved.What's more,reading materials could almost meet students' needs and teachers' requirements,as well as conform to requirements of Curriculum Standard.However,there are some deficiencies in Reading Section.For example,genres and topics of reading materials do not accord with students' interests and learning levels,and design of tasks and exercises do not fully consider different needs of all students.The task-based teaching method is not fully employed to build students' comprehensive language ability.Through the above analysis,this paper put forward some suggestions.Firstly,teachers should pay more attention to students' integrated development of language skills and the adoption of discourse teaching as well as task-based teaching methods.Secondly,students are supposed to change their learning attitudes,develop learning autonomy,and participate in the tasks actively.Finally,textbook compilers ought to reasonably arrange the classic and contemporary reading materials.In addition,in the book,some vocabulary explanations,word and sentence accumulation sections and more alternative reading tasks should be added.
