With the adjustment of fertility policies in recent years, especially the introduction of overall two-child policy in 2016,the study of fertility values has been more and more important.Despite many foreign and domestic researches on fertility values, most are carried out from the angle of sociology and demography and targeted at a certain social group.Few researchers have conducted a comparative study on the fertility values of two social groups from the perspective of intercultural communication.Theoretically, the thesis is based on the structure map of fertility values proposed by Zhang Jinfu and etc.and Triandis' subculture theory.Through conducting in-depth interviews with city-born and city-bred post-90 s urban college students and post-90 s rural migrant workers who were born and raised in the countryside, the author tries to find the differences and similarities of those two kinds of fertility values, based on which the interplay between the two subcultures is analyzed. The research method adopted by this thesis is semi-structured interview.Data collection and analysis are conducted on the basis of words transcribed from recordings of interviews with 24 interview subjects. The interview guide is made according to the structure map of fertility values proposed by Zhang Jinfu and etc.As research findings have shown, the fertility values of post-90 s urban college students and those of post-90 s rural migrant workers are different in the following six aspects: fertility time, sex preference, fertility conditions, fertility value, attitudes towards sex education and attitudes towards adoption. And the similarities shared by those two kinds of fertility values lie in the following four aspects: fertility desires, fertility number, fertility obligations and fertility methods.According to the subculture theory of Triandis, the author explores the reasons for the differences and similarities of those two kinds of fertility values from the perspective of urban culture and rural culture.
