In recent years,the nation pays more and more attention to the development of cultural undertakings,which results in an increasingly greater demand for excellent art talents.In such an era of various information and employment,great changes have also taken place in the concept of the majority of parents,who earnestly want their child to shine and sparkle on the road of art.A large number of Art Senior Middle School emerge as the times require,providing a platform for numerous students to learn art,laying the green channel for them to enter the ideal university.Art students have certain professional knowledge and ability,but they are generally poor in academic courses.The fact that English as a special linguistic subject needs a lot of memory and practice brings much difficulty to art students with weak English foundation and little learning energy.There exist many contributors to students’ learning effect,such as learning strategies and methods,interest,will power and so on.Nevertheless,nearly all the teachers place learning motivation at the first place.The lack of learning motivation becomes the fundamental reason for art students’ weariness of study,dropping out of school and rather low grades.As a consequence,how to improve the art students’ English learning motivation is the most urgent problem to be solved by most English teachers.This research aims at the motivation of art students in N0.24 Senior High School.The way of questionnaire and interviews has been applied during the whole procedure.After going through lots of journals and literatures and considering the specific circumstances of the author’s school,the questionnaire of English learning motivation of Senior High School art students is well designed.Interview questions are scientifically laid out on the basis of questionnaire results.All together 100 art students and 6 teachers act as respondents.The research is aimed at having a better understanding of English learning motivation of Senior High School art students,digging out the differences of motivation on different grades and class types.It will also delve into the main contributors to the formation of English learning motivation of Senior High School art students.Lastly,by sorting out and analyzing the data and also taking the author’s teaching experience into consideration,constructive suggestions on English learning and teaching are put forward from schools,teachers and students.The study indicates that Senior High School students’ English learning motivation is generally weak,and that students are lack of initiative in learning English.Differences on English learning motivation do exist in different grades and class types.Students’instrumental motivation is strong,among which successfully passing the college entrance examination accounts for the largest proportion.The reasons for the lack of English learning motivation are diverse,broadly including the following aspects------students’learning foundation,learning habits,attitudes to learning;learning situation,educational environment,teaching material difficulty.The author hopes large numbers of Art Senior High School teachers can be aware of the current situation of students’ English learning motivation.And also they are able to think hard for the problem,strive for some methods to improve art students’ English learning motivation. |
