Learning motivation has been an important topic in educational theories. At present, with the rapid development of modern technology and the deepening of teaching reforms, the research on learning motivation has been the challenge of globalization and informationization and one hot spot of curriculum reform in middle school. In retrospect, theorists have done a lot of researches on it and gained a lot of achievements, but as a psychological process of study closely related with the present social conditions, learning motivation has been still worth studying in terms of space and value. The present research is enlightened by the theories such as Reinforcement Motivation Theory. Hierarchy of Needs, and Freedom to Learn, Expectancy-Value Theory, Success-Fail Attribution Theory, Self-Efficacy Theory, Sclf-Determination Theory and Achievement Goal Theory. Ninety students of two leading model schools in Liuzhou are randomly chosen to investigate the present conditions of diversity on English learning motivation of senior high school students, aiming at finding out the similarities, the dissimilarities and the reasons caused the diversity:a problem that people interest in at the same time confuse with, and then some suggestions based on the findings are proposed. The instruments of the research arc a questionnaire and an interview. The findings of the research are (1) the similarities:The subjects, in both schools, affirm that teaching facilities of their schools are modern; their English teachers have excellent teaching skills; their families support and attach importance to their English studies. But at the same time, the subjects also state some disadvantages, for example, the lack of language environment, the smallness of autonomic learning space, etc. It is especially pointed out that most of the subjects are influenced by the extrinsic motivation, but the intrinsic motivation should be strengthened.(2) The dissimilarities:firstly, the subjects from No.1Senior High School are more satisfied with the learning environment because their school locates in the quiet environment, but No.2Senior High School is different because it is in the center of Liuzhou city. Secondly, the subjects from No.2Senior High School are less anxious in English classes for in which the English teachers often give them encouragements and they have the harmonious relationship with their English teachers and classmates. Thirdly, the intrinsic motivation of the subjects from No.2Senior High School is higher than those from No.1Senior High School, because No.2Senior High School usually organizes the funny English activities.Based on the above research findings, the thesis puts forward the suggestions respectively on how to motivate students in English study from four angles. First of all, students should hold right learning attitudes and be good at adjusting mental states. Secondly, teachers should pay attention to strengthen students’learning interest by conducting affective interactions with them, helping them to set up the appropriate learning goals, and creating new teaching methods in English classes according to students’personalities. Thirdly, parents should not only attach importance to their children’s English study but also supervise them in the daily life. Finally, schools should take great responsibility of establishing a good atmosphere and environment of English study in line with local conditions for the purpose of enriching the modern teaching resources and reinforcing the management of classes.
