Under the background of the new curriculum reform,the primary school English teaching is to pay attention to student's study interest,and stresses the dominant position of students in the classroom.Teachers carry out various activities in class so as to arouse the enthusiasm of students and cultivate students' interest in learning English.And TPR teaching method exactly adapts to the requirements of English classroom teaching.TPR(Total Physical Response)teaching method is put forward by the famous American psychologist James Asher.It bases on the theory of children's acquisition of mother tongue,and teaches the second language through the body movements.It appears in the form of a variety of activities,which will put learning into a relaxed and happy environment.Although scholars research the TPR teaching method from theory to practice,but mostly concentrates on the demonstration on the feasibility of TPR teaching method.It involves less in TPR current situation,problems of its application in English teaching and strategy research.This paper will make an investigation of the application of TPR teaching method in primary school English teaching by problem-oriented way.This study,first of all,with the help of literature method,integrated the related literature at home and abroad of TPR teaching method.And it gave a definition of the concept,characteristics and related theoretical basis of TPR teaching method and so on.Secondly,it did students' questionnaire,teachers' interview and classroom observation by applying the method of investigation and observation method in the lower grade of the primary school D in county C.The purpose is to understand basic attitude and basic recognition of students and teachers on using TPR teaching method.Then according to the results of the survey and observation,the author summarized the application of the status quo of TPR teaching method in the primary school English teaching.And it concluded the existing problems on the basis of the results from import,practice and output phase.In order to solve the existing problems,the author analyzed the reasons in-depth from the school,teacher,student and teaching itself,found that:(1)the school has a lack of investment in material and spiritual level.(2)teachers are in poorconcept and professional ability.(3)students have weakness on the active consciousness and team consciousness.(4)the method itself exists limitations and fits.Finally the author came up with some corresponding strategies,aiming at the above problems,such as the school should increase capital investment,have a regroup of teachers,establish a research mechanism for the staff and so on.Teachers should change the backward ideas of teaching,and make professional self-improvement actively,etc.Students themselves should be active and initiative,and strengthen the team consciousness.Lastly,the author made a summary and put forward effective TPR teaching strategies combining the author's own teaching experience.
