| Based on Global and Local Impairment theory and Distributed Morphology, this paper examined Chinese high school students’ acquisition of English plural noun form.It is acknowleged that during the acquisition of L2 language they often lost affixes in their output. This phenomenon catches scholars’ eyes with a question that there is any breakdown in their interlanguage grammar?” The purpose of this paper is to verify whether there is a breakdown in high school L2 learners’ interlanguage grammar in the acquisition of the plural form? If any, where is there the breakdown? There are 47 subjects from Fuzhou No.15 high school who were asked to do a questionnaire concerning with the test of plural noun forms.Their data were put into SPSS21.0 with the analytical help of ANOVA,MANOVA and simple effect test to investigate how the subjects acquire noun plural forms. Two results are as the following: firstly there is a significant difference between senior one and senior two subjects in the acquisition of irregular plural noun.It suggests that different levels subjects have different proficiency in learning English plural noun. This phenomenon supports the idea that there is a breakdown in their interlanguage grammar. Then,no matter which levels the subjects are in,they grasp irregular noun forms to a very high degree. It also means that there is still a breakdown in their learning English plural noun forms. So,according to these different phenomena, there are some teaching suggestions: firstly, teachers should combine emphasis with repetition;secondly, mother tongue pronunciation with second language pronunciation;thirdly, interpretation with practical use of noun plural forms. |
