To enact the basic education reform based on the key competences is an international trend.Geographic competence is indispensable for citizens in the information age.Through geographic learning,citizens can better understand the relationship between man and the nature and their responsibility for the environment and other people.The goals of inquiry learning of geography established on the geographic competence try to make students experience the generation of knowledge in activities and then obtain the abilities to deal with complex situations.This dissertation concretely illustrates the developing process and status of the geographic competence and inquiry learning through literature review,which is the theoretical basis of this research to design and implement inquiry learning with cases added.This dissertation is divided into five sections;details as follows:Section 1 introduces the research background,significance,methods.Besides it reviews the research on geographic competence and inquiry learning of geography in high school in domestic and abroad.Section 2 elaborates the content of geographic competence and analyzes its developing process in order to find out the historical basis.Then it defines the concept of inquiry learning of geography and analyzes the features of inquiry learning in terms of the geographic subject.Both are the theoretical support of this research.The third section tries to design the inquiry learning of geography from learning objective,content and the theme.Competence-based inquiry learning objectives change from three-dimentional subjectives to key competences;the content is chosen and organized on the basis of the geographic concept;the theme originates from the combination of the geographic concept and students' real situations.The fourth section is the implementation of the design in section 3.It consists of creating situations,thinking the meaning and making plans,organizing,showing and exchanging the inquiry results,evaluating and conducting.The fifth section adds three cases for analysis to instruct what has been discussed above.
