| One of the goals of China’s new curriculum reformation is to change the traditional way of learning which focuses on mechanic training and rigid memorizing.It is to recommend an active way of study in which the learners play an active part. As is required in Compulsory Geography Curriculum Stands, this course should pay much attention to the cultivation of creativity and practical skills in learners, the variety of study ways, and cooperation in the process of study. Inquiry learning is a brand-new perspective of geography study, becoming more and more popular. It is a different way from traditional ones.It is more focused on information collection and processing abilities, problems analyzing and solving abilities, and communicative and collaboration abilities. Therefore, it is critical to integrate this effective way of study to junior high school geography classroom.This study is based on the author’s teaching practice. Firstly, based on wide reading of inquiry learning data, the connections between inquiry learning and investigative study are illustrated in details. And in relevance to constructivism theory,humanism psychology theory and multiple intelligence, the features and steps of inquiry learning in junior high school geography teaching are presented systematically.Secondly, this study contains typical cases in which inquiry learning strategies have been applied. Finally, questionnaire and comparative research methods are applied to compare the results of inquiry learning and traditional learning, and come to an conclusion about the effects of inquiry learning methods being applied in geography teaching in junior high school.It has been shown through the study that inquiry learning strategy adapt to the demands of the requirement of new curriculum, geography teaching needs, and the cognitive features of middle school students. It is one of the effective ways to achieve the goals of junior high school geography curriculum reformation. Compared with traditional learning strategies, inquiry learning strategy is more able to activate andcultivate interest in learners. It is good for developing abilities of raising, analyzing and solving problems. It can help learners have a quality of being able to share knowledge with others. It can also enhance the communicative and cooperative abilities in learners.As the time,the application of inquiry learning in junior middle school geography teaching also has certain limitation,in the implementation of the proposed the teacher should pay attention to four problems.It is true that this study has some disadvantages because of the limitations of time and the author’s capability.So more questions are presented and expected to be solved in future further research. |
