Teaching of modern poetry is a vital part of secondary education.Though the number of related researches in this field is increasing,it remains a weak point in China.However,Thailand has paid very much attention on it and established a mature system,which would offer beneficial references for us.The constrastive research conducted on the teaching of junior high school modern poetry in both Thailand and China would help to gain the method of improving domestic teaching,provide valuable advice and improve the teaching system.Through the method of analyzing the similaries and differences between them and the factors of national situations,society,history and culture,We have gained the the features of modern poetry in the two countries----1.Teaching goals: three-dimensional target in China and emotional attitude and values in Thailand;2.Teaching contents: differences of key and difficult points setting,preference about choosing textbooks and supplementary teaching resources;3.Teaching strategy: the degree of emphasis on the teaching about reading and writing and the choice about teaching methods;4.Evaluation: China’s tending to neglect it and Thailand’s general assessment system.There remains many problems in China.The teaching goals is disconnected with the other parts,which fails the function of control and evaluation.And it is also confined to the textbook and neglect the interaction between the teachers and students.Moreover,the concept of teaching strategies and methods is vague so as to neglect integration of teaching strategy and instruction of teaching methods.And the evaluation is ignored much often.Based on the problems of all above,we will put forward strategies of improving the modern poetry teaching in China--strengthening macro-handling and deepening micro-analyzing on teaching goals,opening up and integration on teaching contents,transdisciplinary reference for teaching strategy,more attention on teaching of writing and multi-dismensional evaluation on teaching.The research will be based on improving the junior high school teaching of modern poetry.We will pursue instructional designs on the two poems“Dream”and “Paper Boats” through the methods of pictures and scene reconstruction and focusing on strategy of teaching on writing so as to offer helpful references for others.
