Abstract/Summary:
As an important component in the scientific educational methods,model method is frequently adopted in the chemistry teaching while the learning of chemical concepts is the key point for the students’ study.Due to the differences of the students’ existing experiences and cognitive levels,there are different and sometimes even incorrect understandings when the students are learning the chemical concepts.The intuition and conciseness of the model could reduce the difficulties of the students in learning concepts,modify the incorrect understandings for concepts and then realize the conceptual changes by teaching the chemical concepts in the model method to show the characteristics,laws and properties of the substance.In this article,it takes Hechuan Secondary School as the investigation sample to conduct the questionnaire investigation on the middle school chemistry teachers and the current senior high school students.The independently-designed Model Method-based Empirical Research Investigation Questionnaire for the Senior High School Students’ Chemical Conceptual Change(Teacher Questionnaire)and the Model Method-based Empirical Research Investigation Questionnaire for the Senior High School Students’ Chemical Conceptual Change(Student Questionnaire)to carry out the relevant questionnaire investigation on the 34 teachers and 1006 students from the three grades of the senior high school department.After analyzing the investigation results,it can be discovered that the majority of the middle school chemistry teachers believe it is necessary to adopt the scientific methods to conduct the middle school chemical teaching,however,the meaning of the model is understood too superficially and the functions and classification of the model are not comprehensively realized while lacking of the overall cognition for the model;as for the difficulties in developing the model method,most teachers regard it necessary to have sufficient teaching medium supporting while some of them are not familiar with the multimedia application;when the teachers are conducting the conceptual teaching,they often take the cases in daily life as the examples;the students have less deep understanding for the model,which is specifically reflected on the cognition of the appearance structure of the model;most students desire to accept the model method teaching and regard it helpful to learn chemical knowledge;right now some students are still at the passive learning stage of learning the chemical concepts with less learning initiatives so as fail to form the view of independent learning.On base of the investigation,empirical comparison and research have been conducted on the experimental class and control class in combination with the model construction step and conceptual change strategies.During the empirical research,different conceptual exposure methods are adopted to explore the conceptual conflict initiation methods that are more suitable to the practical teaching.At the stage of concept formation,models with different subject knowledge backgrounds are adopted to make analogy,explanation and analysis on the new models so as to help the students construct the new concepts;at the stage of concept application,the students’ conceptual learning effects will be inspected through the specific questions;in terms of the model presentation,multimedia-assisted teaching and the combination of dynamic and static methods are adopted to present the models;it enables the students to intuitively feel about the construction of the models by making the models themselves at the same time of enhancing the communications between teachers and students so as to prevent the students from being restrained by the models.By means of the empirical research,the results of which have indicated that the experimental class adopting the model method to teach in the chemical conceptual teaching achieves obviously higher scores than the control class,and it means that adopting the model method in the senior high school chemical teaching is helpful for the students to construct the chemical concepts,reduce the incorrect understandings for the concepts so as to realize the transformation of chemical concepts.
