Qu Ju-nong(1900-1976)Shi-ying,who is the educator,the early spreader of western philosophy of education in China's modern time.He is also the important leader of rural construction and civilian education movement.As the leading figure in the early development of our philosophy of education,his Philosophy of Education ABC(1929)remarked the shape of philosophy of education with other scholars' works in China.In order to investigate the resources and core points of Qu Ju-nong's philosophy of education,and evaluate his contribution,the paper will be divided into six parts,based on Qu Ju-nong's life cycle and main educational works.Part 1 Introduction.(1)Stating the researching origins.(2)Sorting the materials according to the previous design and emphasizes.(3)Settling the problems of study,including what the sources of Qu's thoughts are;what his core points are;how to evaluate his contribution to philosophy of education.(4)Starting the studying pattern and investigating methods.(5)Found the methods of research.Part 2 Qu's academic introduction and educational undertaking.This part clears up Qu's educational deeds according to the time order,which divided into 4 parts: Qu joined in patriotic and democratic movements,operated publications during the time he was studying in Yenching University.He also received the well-known foreign thinkers;Then he went abroad to Harvard University and published lots of translations and books;In his middle age,Qu devoted himself to rural construction and civilian education movement;At last he taught as a professor in Faculty of Education in Beijing Normal University.Part 3 Qu's thoughts of source on philosophy of education.This part analyzes the origins of Qu's ideas,consisting of two sections: one is the influences from Polemics between Science and Metaphysics in which Qu established his discourse form.The other is the influences from Russell,Driesch,Bergson and Eucken.Part 4 Qu's ideas of philosophy of education.This part analyzes Qu's books,mainly Philosophy of Education ABC,History of Western Educational Thought,his doctoral dissertation and digs out his early thoughts.Four points are included: Firstly,education is a process realizing full-filled life.Secondly,the central ideal of education is freedom.Thirdly,the history of educational ideal calls for constant concept of time.Finally,Chinese traditional philosophy needs to be put into practice.In addition,through his Collected Essays of Rural Education,History of Chinese Ancient Education,we see his thought rupture in his late career,that he criticized the educational thoughts of feudal society and of modern bourgeois with stand of proletariat.Part 5 Evaluation.This paper boldly asserts that Qu's thoughts of philosophy of education belong to Lebensphilosophie.It deserves to be paid attention so that we can gain important directions in our research and practice.
