Reading has always been the core of foreign language comprehensive ability,therefore reading occupies a vital position in foreign language teaching for Chinese students.In recent years,the English reforms of NMET have been trying to return to subject-centered curriculum,which highlights the status of reading in foreign language learning.However,in the current practical English reading teaching of senior high schools,we are confronted with many problems: 1)The consciousness of using the reading strategy is weak.2)The strategy use is poor.Therefore,it is necessary to carry out the training of reading strategy training on senior high students,thus offer students some help for improving their reading ability and help students better adapt to the reforms of the new NMET.This study attempted to answer the following two main questions:Question 1: What is the general situation of the use of reading strategies by high school students?Question 2: Does the teaching of reading strategies improve students' reading performance?This research adopted the synthetic study method.1)The author explored relative key theories and concepts by using the documentary analysis and summarized the relevant research both at home and abroad.2)Considering the first question,aquestionnaire,an interview and a pretest were adopted.3)Considering the second question,we carried out an English reading strategy based on the students' difficulties in using reading strategies.Then another interview and a post-test were used to observe students' reading levels after the reading strategy training.4)This research mainly used SPSS software to make analysis of the data from questionnaires and tests.As for the data from the interview,grounded analysis were adopted to extract conclusions with a high degree of generalization.This study investigated the correlation between the reading strategy teaching and reading scores.By the analysis of the data we collected,we can clearly see that strategy training had a positive effect on improving students' reading ability.The main findings are: 1)grade-ten students can realize the importance of reading and have a positive learning attitude,but their consciousness of using strategies is weak and their use of the strategy types is single;2)students' reading level can be improved through the reading strategy training.The training can help students improve the consciousness and use frequency of the cognitive strategy,and can improve students' meta-cognitive strategy level.Due to the limitation of the author's ability,the research subject and the research condition,there are many limitations of this study.Hope this research can be used as an beneficial attempt to explore reading teaching reforms under the the background of the new NMET,providing valuable references for present reading teaching theory and practice in senior high schools.
