As a basic language skill.English writing play an important part in English teaching.New English Curriculum Standards points out:junior high school graduates should be able to collect and prepare materials according to writing requirements,then independently draft essays and messages,etc,and use common conjunctions to express relations of order and logic,make a brief description about a person or an event......however,although a lot of students at rural junior high school have learned English for many years and have memorized a lots of knowledge about words and grammars,they are not able to use the knowledge they have learned to write an accurate and coherent composition,making lots of mistakes.What'more,students feel bored and unconfident with English writing.Lexical chunk teaching is a new English teaching method which was put forward by Michael Lewis based on psycholinguistics and language acquisition.Many researches on college students' writing show that lexical chunks can be regarded as a whole to be extracted and used.It not only makes the written language more fluent and accurate,but also decrease students' thinking time in writing process.Thus they can reduce the learners' tension and anxiety in the process of language output.Using the lexical chunk teaching,teachers can help students solve their writing problems mentioned above.In order to explore ways to improve students' writing,this research applies from the learning practice of students and applies lexical chunk teaching to English writing teaching at rural middle school based on a deep analysis of the nature of lexical chunk teaching method,it aims to discuss the following two questions:1.Will the lexical chunk teaching be able to improve students' English writing ability after its introduction into rural English writing teaching?2.What effect does lexical chunk teaching have on students' attitude about English writing?In order to carry out this experiment,the author selects students of two classes from Grade eight at a rural middle school in Yishui County,Linyi city,Shangdong Province as research subjects.An empirical experiment is carried out to testify the relationship between the application of lexical chunk in English writing teaching and improvement of students'English writing ability at a rural middle school.The author adopts writing tests.questionnaires and interview as instrument to collect data.According to the research result,the application of lexical chunk teaching can help students effectively use them in their writing and therefore improve their English writing ability.In the meanwhile,students'attitudes about writing have changed and their confidence in English writing has increased.It indicates that applying the lexical chunk to English writing in rural middle school has positive effects.So this method can be flexibly applied to English writing teaching in the future.
